Cutoff Concentrations

All 12 Panel Medical rapid results drug tests comply with SAMHSA guidelines for the cutoff concentrations that should determine a positive or negative result in human urinalysis. The cut off concentrations for the thirteen drugs and metabolites tested in the 14 panel drug screen test are expressed as nanograms per milliliter and are set according to the following levels:

  • Amphetamine 1000 ng/ml
  • Barbiturates 300 ng/ml
  • Benzodiazepines 300 ng/ml
  • Buprenorphine 10 ng/ml
  • Fentanyl 300 ng/ml
  • Alcohol 0.02%
  • Cocaine 300 ng/ml
  • Ecstasy 500 ng/ml
  • THC 50 ng/ml
  • Methadone 50 ng/ml
  • Opiates 2000 ng/ml
  • Morphine 300 ng/ml
  • Oxycodone 100 ng/ml
  • Methamphetamine 1000 ng/ml
  • Pregnancy

Cut off concentration levels ensure the efficacy of the results by minimizing the risk of false positives. Adherence to SAMHSA guidelines prevents false positives specifically occurring from passive or exposure or exposure to foods containing legal amounts of some substances, such as hemp, coca, and opium. With the ability to set customized cutoff concentrations, multi screen drug tests from 12 Panel Medical are sensitive to any variation in cutoff concentration and within a 1% accuracy rate.

If the testing was cup was stored in the refrigerator, it must be brought to room temperature before being used. If the testing cup was frozen, it should be discarded. Operators should also discard of cups that show any sign of contamination.

The 14 panel drug screen test cup should remain in packaging until the donor is ready to provide a specimen. After the operator has removed the testing cup from the protective packaging and opened the seal, the donor should sign and date the cup in the body label.

The donor must provide a sample between 15 ml and 30 ml for accurate results and potential laboratory usage. After receiving the sample, operators should check that the no-drip lid is tightly sealed before beginning a five-minute timer. The temperature indicator should be consulted to ensure that the specimen is between 90 and 100 degrees F. Operators may also choose to check the specimen for adulterants or contamination at this time.

Results can interpret five minutes after collecting the specimen. Do not interpret results if the testing cup was left to stand for more than eight minutes.

Human urine is potentially infectious too and also sensitive to light, air, and contamination. Operators must ensure proper handling of the testing cup and specimen to ensure the accuracy of the results as well as adhere to basic health and safety precautions. Expired cups should be discarded.

Interpreting Results

A positive result is an indication that the sample exceeds the cutoff levels of one or more of the thirteen drugs and metabolites tested for. When the sample is positive for one or more of the drugs that the 14 panel drug test tests for, no colored band forms in the result area of the testing cup. To confirm the positive results, the sample should send to a toxicology laboratory for additional examination.

A negative result indicates the sample does not exceed the cutoff levels for any of the thirteen drugs and metabolites tested for. If a colored band forms in the result area of the testing cup, the sample is negative.
